Dra. Lourdes M. Rosario
PhD, University of Rhode Island at Kingston

Dr. L. M. Rosario works as a full time professor in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. Dr. Rosario teaches courses in manufacturing processes, computer aided design, robotics and automatic assembly. She has developed new courses and reviewed existing ones in these areas.

Dr. Rosario obtained her B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus in June, 1983. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and received the Best Mechanical Engineering Student Award that year. She completed her M.S. studies in Manufacturing Engineering in the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 1984 and obtained her Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island at Kingston in August, 1988. Dr. Rosario is the first full-time female faculty member in the history of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico. Dr. Rosario is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority of Women Educators (ADK). She has been Faculty Advisor of the ASME and SME student chapters.

Her research areas of interest are Automatic Assembly, Computer Aided Design algorithms, CAD design of automatic assembly equipment, and Computer Numerical Control tool path optimization. Dr. L. M. Rosario is interested in continuing research in the area of product design for manufacture and the use of the computer as a tool that integrates design and manufacturing.

In her spare time, Dr. Rosario is actively involved in community activities and writes poetry.
