Dr. Ali Sabzevari

Professor, Ph.D., Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland.

Dr. Ali Sabzevari joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Puerto Rico as Full Professor in 1984, returned to Pahlavi University in Shiraz , Iran for a short while before rejoining ME-UPRM in 1988. He obtained his PhD in mechanical engineering at the Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland and served as Professor and Chairman of Mechanical Engineering and later as Associate Dean in Pahlavi University . From 1985-87, Dr. Sabzevari was a Professor and Director of the Solar Energy Center in Shiraz University . He has worked extensively in the areas of aeroelasticity, machine design and alternate energy sources such as solar and wind energies and has a number of publications in these fields. He has won a number of awards for both teaching and research excellence, including Mechanical Engineer of the Year from both London University and Babcock and Wilcox Co. His topnotch distinction is the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) State of the Art of Civil Engineering Award in 1968 for his pioneering work on Aerodynamic Stability of Suspension Bridges.

Dr. Sabzevari is a dedicated teacher and strongly believes that engineering education should be intimately associated with industrial practice. He places great emphasis on fundamental design concepts. Over the last 17 years, he has dedicated himself to developing and improving our Capstone Design course through strong relationships with the local industry to the flagship status that it enjoys in the College of Engineering.
