I am pleased

that the
recipient of
the
Mechanical
Engineering
Distinguish
Professor
Award of
for the
academic
year
2001-2002 is
Dr. Paul
Sundaram
.
Dr. Paul
Sundaram
graduated
from the
Ohio
State
University
in 1988 with
a Ph.D. in
metallurgical
engineering.
He joined
the
Mechanical
Engineering
Department
at the
University
of
Puerto Rico
in March
1989 and
became
Professor in
1997. His
areas of
research
include
mechanical
behavior of
metals and
mechanical
property
determination.
He also
has worked
in the area
of hydrogen
in gamma
titanium
aluminides
for the last
8 years.
Paul
Sundaram has
about 40
publications
in refereed
journals and
conferences.
Recently,
he has been
working in
the area of
biomaterials.
He is the
only person
to hold a
P.E. license
in
metallurgical
engineering
in
Puerto Rico
.
He
is married
to Eng.
Fabiola
Buitrago and
they have
two children
Paola
Alejandra
and Julian
Patrick.
This award
is by a
nomination
of peers
and/or
students,
and is
granted to a
faculty
member who
has excelled
in teaching,
research and
service
during the
evaluation
period as
certified by
the
Personnel
Committee of
the
Engineering
Departments.
