Dr. Stefano Leonardi
PhD, University of Rome La Sapienza.

Dr. Stefano Leonardi obtained his Laurea (equivalent of a Bachelor and Master) in 1999 graduating summa cum laude and his PhD from the University of Rome “La Sapienza” in 2002. He has been a post doctoral fellow at the University of Rome up to 2006 when he joined the Department of ME at UPRM as Assistant Professor. During his PhD and post doctoral fellowship, he has been visiting scholar at University of Newcastle Australia , UC San Diego Scripps Institution of Oceanography , University of Seattle and University of Southampton . He has published 19 journal papers (6 in the last 2 years at ME) in the most prestigious journals in Fluid Mechanics such as Journal of Fluid Mechanics , Physics of Fluids, Experiments in Fluids, Physica, and the Journal of Turbulence . He has more than 40 conference papers (8 in his 2 years at ME). Dr. Leonardi has been in the organizing committee of the 1 st European Drag Reduction and Flow Control Conference , held in Ischia (Naples) in April 2006.

Dr. Leonardi is an excellent educator, respected and liked by students and enjoys a fine rapport with them. Dr. Leonardi has an Adjunct Professor appointment at RPI since 2007. He was an invited speaker at the Abdus Salam Center for Theoretical Physics last January, and he will give an invited lecture at the AIAA Conference in Seattle in June 2008. He is a referee for the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, Physics of Fluids, International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow , and Experiments in Fluids .

Dr. Leonardi's research is currently funded by Pratt & Whitney on internal cooling of turbine blades. He is also the PI on a second project on Fuel Cells funded by Argonne National Lab . He has advised 2 PhD students (one post doc at John Hopkins and one at Ilmeneau Germany ). He is currently supervising 6 graduate and 10 undergraduate students here at ME.
